Born on December 22, 1858, in Lucca, Italy, Puccini's works are among the most frequently performed in the standard opera repertoire.
Some of his most famous operas include:
La Bohème (1896): A romantic opera that depicts the lives of young bohemians in Paris.
Tosca (1900): A dramatic work set in Rome, revolving around the love and jealousy of the singer Floria Tosca.
Madama Butterfly (1904): A tragic opera set in Japan, telling the story of the young geisha Cio-Cio-San and her ill-fated marriage to an American naval officer.
Turandot (1926, posthumously completed by Franco Alfano): This opera is set in China and revolves around the icy Princess Turandot, who requires suitors to solve three riddles to win her hand in marriage.
